Taken during our visit to Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital city which was only replaced by Tokyo at the whimsy of a warlord 200 years ago. The temple was not originally gold-plated – all the ‘unspoiled’ ancient architecture in Japan is made of wood and exists as a mucky brown-black. This refurb is only a few decades old
